TAHARA Aichi/Japan (Sunday, July 29th, 2012) – Hawaiian surfer Ezekiel Lau (Oahu, HI) has won Japan’s biggest event, claiming a victory over the ASP 4-Star Billabong Pro Tahara over Hairil Anwar (INA) in clean one-to-three foot (1 metre) waves.

The 30-minute battle saw Anwar jump out early lead, but Lau fought back and launched a big air, taking a 7.83 out of 10 for the ride and quickly found another ride to amass a 14.50 out of 20, which proved enough for the win. Anwar battled back at the end of the Final, but was unable to overtake Lau.

“This was such a great event and I’d like to thank Billabong and everyone in Japan for putting on the event,” Lau said. “I went to Japan once when I was little, but this is the first time I’ve been back and it was so nice.”

Thomas Woods (AUS) and Japanese talent Masotashi Ohno (JPN) were also standouts in the event and finished equal 3rd respecitively.

Billabong Pro Tahara 2012 Final Results:
1 – Ezekiel Lau (HAW)
2 – Hairil Anwar (INA)
3 – Masatoshi Ono (JPN)
3 – Thomas Woods(AUS)
